Friday May 20thth 11a & 1p. Free. Little Red’s Hood is a fresh retelling of the classic ‘Little Red Riding Hood’ tale updated with a modern sensibility that appeals to kids. In this story, Little Red is a smart, young city dweller who is obsessed with her smartphone. Wulfric, a misunderstood wolf with a sweet tooth, crosses paths with Little Red on her travels to deliver her Grandma cupcakes and the trouble begins. This story offers a comical lesson on the importance to disconnect from our digital lives and enjoy real life moment with friends and family.

Kids Camp: The Iron Giant at Alamo Downtown Brooklyn & Lower Manhattan

All Kids Camp tickets are $5 for everyone – little kids, big kids, and grownup kids – and each week brings a new selection, ranging from recent animated favorites to timeless classics. Movies Under The Stars: Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings in Sunset Park
Friday May 20th 815-1015p. Free. Location: Sunset Park Playground. Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. Shang Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings: Shang-Chi, the master of weaponry-based Kung Fu, is forced to confront his past after being drawn into the Ten Rings organization. Movies begin at dusk. This event is FREE and open to the public. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, the screening may be canceled. The decision to cancel the event will be made prior to the screening and will be prominently posted on the website.

Movies Under The Stars: Encanto in Maria Hernandez Park
Friday May 20th 815-1015p. Free. Grab a blanket and come enjoy a movie in a neighborhood park or playground! This summer, NYC Parks and The Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment will host family-friendly movie showings across the five boroughs. Encanto: A Colombian teenage girl has to face the frustration of being the only member of her family without magical powers. Movies begin at dusk. This event is FREE and open to the public. Glass bottles and alcoholic beverages are strictly prohibited. In the event of heavy rain or extreme weather, the screening may be canceled. Go Fish! in Wagner Park (Battery Park City)
Saturday May 21st 10a-1p. Free. Go Fish! Battery Park City’s celebration of life in the Hudon Estuary. Join experienced anglers for catch-and-release fishing and learn about life in the Hudson River. Help observe and identify the fish we catch, enabling us to share valuable data with research groups who monitor the health of our local waters. The day also includes an art project and a nature walk. Plus: don’t miss a live performance of the hit internet show Sing with Suzi featuring Suzi Shelton and special guest The Culture Queen. 10AM-1PM: CATCH-AND-RELEASE FISHING, 10:45AM: ART PROJECT, 11AM: FAMILY SHOW, 12:15PM: NATURE WALK

Mil’s Trills at David Rubenstein Atrium (UWS)
Saturday May 21st 11a. Free. This event is free and open to the public. Seating and entry are first-come, first-served; the line will form at the Atrium’s entrance on Broadway, between 62nd and 63rd Street. Brooklyn-based Mil’s Trills brings their high-energy, participatory performance to the Atrium this spring in celebration of their new family album, Let It Out!, which helps all ages identify, accept, and process emotions in positive and affirming ways. Sing, move, and dance with neighbors, family, and friends to restore connection, nourish self-love, and build empathy towards a peaceful global community. This event is approximately 60 minutes. The 16th Annual Dance Parade and Festival in Tompkins Square Park
Saturday May 21st 12n-7p. Free. Parade 12n-4p: 20th Street & Broadway to Avenue A. 10,000+ Dancers DJS and live bands will light up NYC! DanceFest 2022 in Tompkins Square Park, the destination of the parade at Avenue A and Saint Marks Place, comes alive from 3-7pm with choreographed performances, dance lessons, aerial and social dance – on five stages, all free to the public. World Bee Day on Governors Island
Saturday May 21st 12n-4p. Free. Register for 12n-2p or 2-4p session. Note: fess for the ferry. In honor of World Bee Day (5/20), The Bee Conservancy is hosting a family-friendly event on Governors Island in partnership with Earth Matter and GrowNYC, and sponsored by Zarbee’s. Visit our flagship Bee Sanctuary for a day of fun, sun and pollinator education and enjoy a honey bee “Hive Dive”, a fun 5-minute film screening, arts and crafts, and a Waggle Dance-off with a live brass band! Then head to our Urban Farm neighbors for a Farm Tour with GrowNYC, and a Seed Bomb Making Station with Earth Matter. Come learn about our sustainable habitats for ground, cavity, and honey bees in NYC and enjoy complimentary goodies from Zarbee’s. The Urban Farm will feature the same activities broken down into (2) sessions, starting at 12 p.m. and 2 p.m., including two Hive Dive Bee Inspections & Talks by The Bee Conservancy at 12:30 and 2:30 pm, and Earth Matter’s Seed Bomb Station from 12-3:15pm.

The Great DUMBO Drop
Saturday May 21st 3-8p (drop at 5p). Location: Washington Street, in DUMBO. Brooklyn’s most iconic block with an only-in-Dumbo spectacle twist: thousands of elephants parachuting onto Washington Street! It’s a free block party for all! It’s a not-to-be-missed spectacle! Family Discovery Days at Brooklyn Botanic Garden
Saturdays-Sundays 1030a-1230p until May 22nd. Free with Garden admission. This is a drop-in program for families with children of all ages. Experiment, learn, and play! Hands-on activity stations throughout the Discovery Garden encourage families to explore science and nature together. Pot up a plant or create a nature craft to take home alongside volunteer Discovery Docents and GAP Teen Apprentices. All programs are outdoors and canceled in inclement weather. Opening Weekend: Analog City NYC B.C. (Before Computers) at the Museum of the City of New York
Opening Friday May 20th. Museum Hours: Frdiays-Sundays 10a-5p & Thursdays 10a-9p. Included with Museum admission. Analog City: NYC B.C. (Before Computers) uncovers the array of tools, technologies, and lost professions that supported New York City as it exploded into a global metropolis in the pre-digital era. Focusing on the period between the 1870s and the 1970s, Analog City examines the technologies that enabled the city to reach its position as the “capital of the world” in an age before the speed and capacity of today’s digital technologies. Set against a contemporary backdrop of 24-hour news cycles and high-speed trading—in which questions about privacy, truth, and the impact of social media are increasingly pressing—the exhibition uncovers this bygone era of paper files and pneumatic tubes, of note cards and telephone directories, and examines how New York thrived as a center of finance, news, research, and real estate in an era before personal computers and the internet.

Wake Up, Daisy! at the Swedish Cottage Marionette Theatre (Central Park)

Wake Up, Daisy! tells the story of Daisy, a lively little girl living in the heart of New York City in an apartment overlooking Central Park. At Daisy’s much-anticipated birthday party, she encounters three special guests, known as her “Squad-parents”, from Brooklyn, Queens, and the Bronx who grant her the gifts of courage, knowledge, and a second chance. Seaport Discovery: Exploring Our Waters with Eric Carle at South Street Seaport Museum
Fridays-Sundays 11a-5p in May. Admission is $5 per child aged 1-12, with no charge for accompanying caregivers, teens, and infants. Advanced timed tickets are recommended. Book today! Visit our new discovery room of maritime-themed art by Eric Carle, beloved creator of picture books for young children. Seaport Discovery: Exploring Our Waters with Eric Carle is designed specifically for children aged 2-7 and their adults. In June, it will open Wednesday through Sunday from 11am to 5pm. Please note that people over age 5 will be required to show proof they are fully vaccinated to enter indoor exhibition spaces and to board Ambrose.

The Yard: Adventure Playground on Governor’s Island
Saturdays-Sundays 12n-4p. Free admission but fees for ferries. See website for details. Wel­come back to The Yard, New York City’s only adven­ture play­ground! The Yard offers free week­end play from 12 – 4pm. The Yard is a kids-only space stew­ard­ed by trained play­work­ers. The main play area is rec­om­mend­ed for young peo­ple ages 6 to 12 and the fam­i­ly play area wel­comes chil­dren under 5. The Yard sup­plies young peo­ple with loose parts mate­ri­als for build­ing, explor­ing, imag­in­ing and destroy­ing. In addi­tion to free week­ends, The Yard also offers sum­mer camp, school field trips, birth­day par­ties and spe­cial pro­grams, all with adher­ence to CDC guidelines. Farm Exploration Days in Randall’s Island Park
Saturdays-Sundays 10a-4p until October 8th. Free. Location: Urban Farm. Explore the Urban Farm’s variety of crops, rice paddies, and fragrant herbs, and meet the chickens too! All ages welcome!

1885 Tall Ship Wavertree Free Tour at South Street Seaport
Fridays, Saturdays-Sundays 11a-5p until May 22nd and Wednesday-Sunday starting May 25th. Free. The permanently-moored 1885 tall ship Wavertree is open to the public for FREE on Saturdays and Sundays, with timed entry, at Pier 16 (Fulton and South Streets). Guided tours depart hourly and last approximately 30 minutes. Advance reservations are recommended. Guided tours include access to the main deck and quarter deck. Learn how people worked and lived aboard a 19th century cargo sailing vessel, from the captain to the ship’s officers, cooks, and crew. Then visit the cargo hold and stand atop the viewing platform where you can take in the massive main cargo area. Proof of vaccine required for all guests over age 5. Masks required.

Sharks at the American Museum of Natural History (UWS)
Museum hours Wednesday-Sunday 10a-530p. Included in General Admission+One. See website for all the details.The new exhibition Sharks features dozens of life-sized models ranging from 33 feet to 5.5 inches long, fossils from the Museum’s collections, touch-free interactive exhibits that challenge visitors to hunt like a hammerhead, and more for visitors of all ages. Older than dinosaurs—and more threatened than threatening—sharks are spectacular, surprising, and often misunderstood.
